As a young military officer, 31 years ago, I could never have expected to turn out the person I am today. I am not sure if it had been my military helicopter flight experience (of more than 3000 flight hours), from the position of an instructor pilot seat, responsible for making me eligible for all that transformation, I feel I have done in myself. What I know for sure is that a severe helicopter accident in 2004, which claimed the lives of 17 people, including my wingman, classmate, and “second brother,” prompted me to devote the balance of my career to Aviation Safety. Following this accident three years later on, I honorably retired, as a Lieutenant Colonel and since then I am spending my working schedule as an aspirant pioneer in Aviation Safety systemic thinking and action.
I changed direction in my professional life and every step I take, brings me nearer to feeling closer to my real purpose in life. Initially, it had been my MBA thesis topic selection related to “Safety Culture Mapping” that made me known abroad, and then they were recognized my accident investigation skills, that opened me up the doors of becoming a member of Faculty at the Aerospace Engineering Dept. of San Jose State University in USA. Later I encountered the happiness of a real pioneer when I had been hired by a highly regarded airline to employ the TRIPOD Beta Accident Analysis methodology in analyzing a high-profile accident, for the first time, with that methodology, worldwide. Finally, my journey brought me in front of meeting Coaching and after I was accredited as an EMCC Coach/Mentor, at the practitioner level, I have had to personally meet Timothy Gallwey and “the Inner Game Methodology”.
The experience is still vivid and strong inside me. Tim had taught me about enjoyment, a missing link, something I was seeing before, as a luxury in life that still was blurring my clarity, while playing my inner game. I ended up being the first trained Inner Game Facilitator with a military and Aviation background. Today I am so grateful for my decision to join the TIGI and become a member of the global certified facilitators’ team. Tomorrow I am looking forward to remain a student of life, constantly developing my inner game capabilities, leading them to higher levels, with the assistance of my TIGI colleagues and at the same time to focusing into introducing those concepts into military and Aviation backgrounds.
